NEW OIL KINGS ARE HERE.

The Evolution of Gateron Oil King Switches

The original Gateron Oil King switches are considered one of the greatest successes in the premium mechanical switch sector. As a linear switch, they impressed with their exceptional smoothness, a deep, "thocky" sound profile, and a high-quality material combination of a POM stem, nylon top housing, and ink bottom housing. Particularly noteworthy is the factory lubing, which provides an almost perfect typing feel straight out of the box. Technically, the classic Oil Kings offer approximately 55 gf actuation force, 2.0 mm pre-travel, and 4.0 mm total travel with a 5-pin design. These characteristics made them a "gold standard" among linear switches, as they deliver a consistent, high-quality experience without modification.

SILENT LINEAR, SILENT TACTILE AND SILENT HEAVY TACTILE

With the new generation of Oil King Switches, Gateron significantly expands this concept and is launching a complete switch family for the first time. The new variants – Pink Linear Silent, Light Purple Tactile Silent, and Yellow Heavy Tactile – are specifically designed to differ in feedback and sound characteristics. The Pink Silent remains linear but significantly reduces noise through integrated dampening and features approximately 45 gf and 3.8 mm total travel. The Light Purple Tactile Silent adds noticeable tactile feedback with approx. 55 gf, 1.5 mm pre-travel, and also 3.8 mm total travel. The Yellow Heavy Tactile variant goes even further, offering significantly more pronounced feedback with approximately 60 gf and stronger resistance, as well as 3.4 mm total travel. All new switches continue to use factory lubing, improved spring constructions, and durable materials, thus retaining the characteristic "Oil King Smoothness."

The most important difference between the original Oil King and the new series thus lies in specialization. While the original Oil King was conceived as a universal premium linear, the new generation is specifically aimed at different user groups: quiet setups, tactile typing preferences, or stronger feedback for enthusiasts. At the same time, the DNA of the series is retained – especially the high build quality and exceptional smoothness. Thus, the Oil King series evolves from a single cult product to a complete product family. The new variants are also expected to be available from InputGear starting in early May, further strengthening their availability in the European market and making the series even more accessible to the community.
