The HMX Cthulhu Switch is a modern, premium linear switch specifically designed for enthusiasts seeking a particularly loud, bright, and "clacky" sound profile. Unlike many current switches that aim for a deep, "thocky" sound profile, the Cthulhu deliberately focuses on a sharp, resonant sound with high presence. This is achieved by the special material combination of a high-fiberglass P7 bottom housing and a reinforced POM stem, which together enable a very direct, crisp, and surprisingly smooth actuation. This makes the switch particularly suitable for builds where sound character and acoustic feedback are paramount – less for quiet office setups, and more for expressive custom keyboards.

Compared to other HMX switches – such as the Electric Wave – the Cthulhu is much more focused on maximum sound presence. While many modern linear switches try to achieve a balanced ratio between sound and smoothness, the Cthulhu clearly positions itself as a "Clack King." It delivers a sharper, higher-frequency sound profile and a very direct typing feel, while still remaining surprisingly smooth, typical of HMX. This makes it particularly interesting for users who want to create a striking, acoustically dominant keyboard build.
